BAC is an educational and cultural service organization that works to foster and promote the understanding, appreciation and practice of all artistic disciplines.
School Groups: BAC employs professional artists to provide classroom instruction in music, dance, theater, puppetry, museum studies, creative writing, media, visual and folk arts in public schools in all five boroughs. All programs, which integrate both the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts and the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, are designed to enhance the school curriculum.
Assembly Programs: BAC assembly programs include performances of traditional, classical, and jazz music
and dance, along with theatrical presentations and folk tales and stories. Folk arts performances display the wide range of talent from Brooklyn’s diverse ethnic community, including Russian folk dance and ballet; Chinese Opera; South Indian dance; Irish step dancing; African, Haitian, and Afro-Cuban drumming, song and dance; Native American dance; American Square dance; Contemporary Urban dance; and many more.
Programs for Teachers: BAC offers professional development workshops for teachers, arts specialists, and administrators, as well as workshops that give parents the skills to create curriculum-based arts projects at home with their children. In addition to incorporating the state and city standards and goals into our workshops, It design our curricula to: increase youth exposure to the arts; improve youth attitudes towards arts engagement and participation; help youth expand verbal and nonverbal communication skills; and provide opportunities for youth to apply and strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
