Bash the Trash provides residencies, performances and family events that combine science, the arts, and the environment. Our core program is a residency which begins with an exciting, audience-participatory musical auditorium performance that demonstrates the science of sound and how instruments work. In follow-up classroom workshops, students will build musical instruments from recycled and reused materials that they collect themselves, giving a tangible example of the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Students then write musical stories inspired by the sounds of their invented musical instruments, and then perform those stories. Bash the Trash performances, residencies, and events always connect to your curriculum, and we can tailor our programs to your school’s specific needs.
Bash the Trash Environmental Arts combines science, music and environmental awareness through performances, educational programs and social initiatives. Whether performing with musical instruments built from trash, building artworks from found objects, or consulting on environmental arts education, BTT always focuses on how the arts and science work together. Founded by John Bertles in 1988, BTT now reaches around 50,000 students, teachers, and parents a year in performances, residencies and professional development programs
