The innovative Education & Outreach program at Ballet Hispanico pairs highly trained dancers, choreographers, and teaching artists with students, educators, dance audiences, and the general public, in the guided exploration of a diverse and inspiring series of education activities. It is committed to exploring the Hispanic Diaspora through dance. Based on the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Dance, the program supports student achievement in the classroom and inspires a passion for learning and discovery that will last a lifetime.
Ballet Hispanico company members and teaching artists are trained to meet the developmental needs of children and to meet all participants, including adults, where they are at in terms of skill level in dance. All residencies include a series of dance workshops, a planning meeting, and at least one reflection meeting with classroom teachers. Workshops typically occur 12 to 25 times per group, and include weekly 45-minute lessons with a Ballet Hispanico teaching artist. Additional residency components, like: Professional development and Parent Engagement sessions, site visit to Ballet Hispanico, and/or attendance at a performance by the company, can be added depending on the needs and interests of each school, organization or community group.
